Annemarie made for a great tour!

Annemarie is incredibly attentive and knowledgable guide. She gets to know you, and where you’re from and always pointing out relevant details to your life that she learns over the course of the tour. She was very patient - we were with two young boys that were very inquisitive and she did a great job fielding their questions while keeping the tour on track. Also, if you hate the microphone and headphones tours, this one is for you!! Small intimate group makes for a great, lowkey tour. Perfect way to spend a morning of your trip.

Outstanding experience with Annemarie, exceeded our expectations.

We had the best tour with Annemarie! Our tour was nice and small, only 7 of us and we not only stopped at the Lincoln memorial and war memorials but learned a lot about the design of the DC mall as well as lots of hidden secrets at each of the sites. She managed to even keep our kids engaged and learning, would absolutely do another tour with her!

Worth it!

Our tour guide, Brenda, was personable, responsive to our group's needs, and paced the tour well. She was also knowledgeable about both local and national history. I feel like this was a unique tour and a manageable amount of walking for tweens & teens. Given this experience, we would definitely book again with Babylon.

Great Tour with Brenda

We had Brenda as our tour guide for the DC National Mall tour, and she was excellent. What we enjoyed the most was the thoughtfulness and perspective she offered at each memorial and at the Washington Monument. Her depth of knowledge really showed and made the tour that much better. She also offered us some tips while in DC and they have already come in handy. Thank you Brenda!

We had such a wonderful experience on this walking tour of the Washington DC monuments and memorials! FAQ's

The route covers about 1.6 miles over 2.5 hours, with stops at each monument for guided commentary. The Mall is flat and well-paved, but it's all outdoors and exposed to weather.

No dress code applies. Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate layers are the main things to plan for, since the entire 1.6-mile route is outdoors with limited shade and very few covered shelters.

Route customization is available on private tours - share your priorities in advance and the guide will adjust accordingly. Semi-private tours follow a set route to keep the group on schedule for the timed Washington Monument entry at the end.

Brief rest opportunities are built in, though seating is limited and the group keeps moving to stay on schedule. Private tours allow for longer pauses if pace is a concern.

The tour concludes at the Washington Monument, where guests use their included timed entry ticket to ride to the observation deck. From there, you're free to take in the 360-degree views at your own pace before heading off.

Yes - a timed entry ticket to the Washington Monument observation deck is included. This portion is unguided, so you'll ascend on your own schedule after the guided walk concludes at the base of the monument.

Yes - the Lincoln Memorial is one of the main stops, with time to climb the steps and stand beneath the towering statue. Guides cover the memorial's role as a backdrop for speeches and protests, including Dr. King's 'I Have a Dream' address in 1963.

Both are visible from points along the National Mall, though the route doesn't walk directly to either building. The Capitol shows clearly from the eastern end of the Mall, and the White House comes into view from near the Washington Monument.

Both memorials are on the route with full guided commentary. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall lists more than 58,000 names, and the Korean War Veterans Memorial features 19 life-sized soldiers crossing a solemn landscape - guides cover the design intent and personal stories behind each.

All monuments and memorials are visited from the outside on the guided portion. The exception is the Washington Monument at the end, which guests enter independently using their included observation deck ticket.

Guides cover the history and symbolic design choices at each site - why the Vietnam wall is reflective black granite, how the Korean War figures were arranged in formation, the meaning behind the Stone of Hope at the MLK Memorial, and the 50 pillars at the WWII Memorial.

First-time visitors get a strong overview of D.C.'s most photographed landmarks in a single morning, plus the Washington Monument entry at the end. Many visitors book this tour on day one to orient themselves before exploring other parts of the city.

Families do well on this tour, especially since the Washington Monument observation deck at the end tends to be a memorable payoff for kids. The 1.6-mile distance is manageable for most school-age children, though strollers are welcome for younger ones.
