We thank Babylon Tours' chief, Tom Dolan, for assigning Victoria to our family. She is an incredible, electrifying guide- truly knowledgable and passionate about Art, especially about Van Gogh. Throughout the several hours we spent with her, pouring over most of the significant art works at the very well laid out and organized museum, she systematically brought to life the tortured soul that was Van Gogh. Victoria made us see how much of Van Gogh's emotions, experiences and madness is reflected in his work, she also showed us works of other great painters who influenced him. Victoria had an in depth knowledge of his family, friends and acquaintances. She knew of his complex relationships with almost everyone. She also told us in detail about Van Gogh's tragic demise and the mystery surrounding it. Everytime she would bring us towards a masterpiece she would allow us my husband and I and our young daughters time to analyse it, before giving her expert opinion about it. The Van Gogh Museum, the brain child of the late painter's nephew, is in itself a marvel- every floor one ascends takes one into one part of the artist's mind and to one stage of his life. By the time we reached the top level, we felt we were looking at everything through his tortured eyes. The Museum shop too has merchandise that is worth purchasing, catering to all age groups and budgets. Touring the Van Gogh Museum on your own is possible, but it's a whole different experience having a spectacular guide bring the artist, his life and masterpieces alive for you. This was an exceptional tour and made our visit to the Van Gogh Museum unique. My husband has hearing issues and was able to experience the museum in a fuller way with our excellent private tour. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience.
